I started working as a VA (Virtual Assistant) in January 2009. I started out on my own and pretty clueless how to advertise myself! I was confident in my ability to provide good quality work but I had no idea how to actually get a client to work for!
I spent a week designing and setting up www.virtual-pa-uk.com then sat back, I think I expected having a website would do enough and people would come running to me! I spent days trawling the internet but as the concept as a VA was so new there were not any jobs! I came across a business in London that needed a PA to do a few hours here and there. I called them and explained the concept of a VA and they said they would give me a go.
That was my first client who we still work with today!
Since then we have ran events within the Fire Service, carried out secret shopping projects, booked holidays for our clients, saved a large London auction house £15,000 per year by restructuring the system they use without making any cuts in staff and everything in-between!
We have grown from one person setting up a makeshift desk in the lounge to a four person company who carry out major projects.
The concept of a virtual assistant is still relatively new but we like to think we are breaking ground. People are starting to realise that with a VA they can save money, improve their business and it really can be done away from the office. There is nothing you could need that we do not have; laptop, mac, printer, scanner, fax…. Whatever you have in your typical office we all have in our own studies!
It’s exciting times and VA’s are the future!
